Hot take:

Win-Lose doesn’t exist

The conflict table, as we think it works...
The conflict table, as we think it works...

Everyone knows about the Win-Win situation.

Whether it’s a negotiation or discussion with a client, boss, or colleagues…

Everybody knows:

Win-Win is the way to go

No-brainer, right? 🧠

Well, unfortunately not.

To “win” for yourself, you need to know what you want.

🔸 Where do you stand, what do you stand behind?

🔹 Why do you want more/less of XYZ?

🔸 What are your boundaries and desires?

That’s where it starts, but it goes beyond this post.

Now, about Win-Lose.

Suppose the other person comes out on top in a discussion or negotiation… what’s the end result?

🛑 You feel cheated,

🛑 You feel resentment or even anger towards the other person,

🛑 You feel unheard, or even disrespected…

In short, what happens to your relationship?

It deteriorates. 👎

So far, so clear. But here’s the next point:

Does the other person benefit if the relationship deteriorates? 🤔

The other person, who supposedly “won”..?

No.

➡ If it’s a client: do you think they’ll want to return to you?

➡ If it’s your employee: do you think they’ll remain loyal to your clinic?

➡ If it’s a colleague: do you think they’ll want to give 110% if you have an urgent case?

No, no, and no.

Oops.

This is what I focus on in veterinary clinics:

Restoring that dynamic.

Going back to a Win-Win situation together. ✅
