I have an Issue with One of the Most Common Terms in Personal Development and Mental Health:

💢 Resilience 💢
Here’s why I think we should get rid of this term as soon as possible.
Definition:
Resilience; resistance: opposition, defense – *van Dale* (Dutch dictionary)
"Resilience training" – "Mental resilience training"...
There’s a wide range of training programs on resilience. 📚
And I’m not against those.
In fact, I think these programs are useful and valuable.
But when we go back to the definition, I see a problem:
Resilience assumes that you’re under attack. 🥊
And that you need to (be able to) resist, defend yourself, and push back. 💪
I think it’s an unnecessarily negative perspective. 📉
---
Do we face unexpected or undesired challenges every day?
Yes, absolutely.
That’s life, whether we like it or not.
But resilience implies that we must brace ourselves.
With armor on, shield in hand, standing firm against the attack. 😠
---
Here’s my suggestion:
➡ What if we saw ourselves as a spring?
What resonates more with you:
❓ Daily battles where you must
🔻 fend off attacks,
🔻 fighting for yourself, your desires, and your boundaries?
Or:
❓ Challenges coming your way that you can
✅ handle,
✅ and bounce back from, returning to your own baseline?
Well, I know which one speaks to me.
What about you?
🤔 Do you think we’re capable of more than we believe? 💪

Let me know if you need anything else! 😊
